Request to Update the Syrian Flag in Emoji Keyboards
Dear Unicode Consortium,
On behalf of the Syrian people and users worldwide, we kindly request that you update the current Syrian flag used in your emoji database.
The flag currently displayed does not represent the values or aspirations of the majority of the Syrian population. Most Syrians and many governments recognize the updated flag of the Syrian Arab Republic. This flag consists of three horizontal stripes: green on top, white with three red stars in the middle, and black at the bottom.
Background:
The current emoji flag does not align with the recognized flag of the Syrian people and their current aspirations.
The updated flag has already been acknowledged and accepted by international platforms, including Wikipedia and recognized by the new government in Germany.
This discrepancy causes confusion and fails to represent the majority of Syrians who identify with the updated flag.
Our Request:
Update the Syrian flag in your emoji database to reflect the official flag (green, white with three red stars, black).
Ensure this change is implemented across all platforms (Apple, Samsung, Android, etc.).
Why is this important?
1. Representation: The flag is a vital symbol of national identity.
2. Public Demand: The majority of Syrians support this change.
3. Global Standards: Accurate representation fosters consistency in digital communication.
We kindly request this change to be prioritized and implemented as soon as possible to reflect the correct identity of Syria.
Thank you for your attention, and please feel free to contact us for further information or clarification.
Umm, hard to say if this is adopt-able or not, Afghanistan is also governed by a new government since the Summer of 2021, but still no changes on Afghan flag emoji.
