sl: user reports that time separator should be colon, not period

Description

Deleted Component: other

Apple has received no less than four separate reports from developers that the Slovenian time separator should be colon, not period.

One reporter acknowledges that the period is recommended, but claims everyone actually uses colon:

Yes, it is true that in or official Slovenian spelling it is recommended that period should be used, but this has nothing with our digital (and printed) reality. Hope fully next step will be to fix our Spelling!

I gathered some information from various sources:

  • most frequently used on-line sites: rtvslo.si (national radio & television company), 24ur.com (most visited news side)

  • andorid with Slovenian setting

  • Windows with Slovenian setting

  • national railways timeschedule

  • a bill from drugstore

The digital resources could be influenced by other versions of CLDR and/or personal settings, but the railways table looks valid. Attaching it here.

For the TC to discuss.

Opt Subject: Slovenian Standard Time Format

Hello,

I'm with LG Electronics and responsible for all things mobile in Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.

With the latest iteration of Google's Android we noticed a for us new time format: HH.mm.ss (<- as seen in Android)
As per our local Slovenian contacts and our experience with Android before Lollipop however the general time format in Slovenia is HH:mm:ss

It took us some time to locate the source being this website and due to internal bureaucracy however we need to find the correct source and the better long term solution for us would be to change it if possible.

Long story short, we would appreciate your feedback on how the Slovenian standard time format was gathered and depending on that whether or not it is possible to be changed to the apparent actual Slovenian time format.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards
Sebastian Rottke

Hello,
National railways timeschedule is not exactly a decent source as it also uses inappropriate date form (missing spaces).
National television does use a correct form in their written texts, but they do use the version with colon in some features, and that seems to come from the system.
If needed, colon can be added to the set of available time formats but with a note its use is not approved by existing linguistic norm.

Regards,
Alenka
